Scotland, located on the northern part of the island of Great Britain, is one of four countries which form the United Kingdom.

Scotland is most densely populated in the Central Belt where the largest cities are located - Glasgow in the West, Stirling in the centre and the capital Edinburgh in the East.   There are three more cities in Scotland - Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.

It is about 275 miles long from North to South and ranges between 24 and 154 miles from east to west. Nearly 800 islands are also part of Scotland, including the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland.
Whisky is distilled in several main areas of Scotland.  The main areas are:
The Lowlands
The Speysides
The Highlands
The Islands
The Islays

Each area produces different whiskies and even within areas whisky can vary greatly.
