Accidental discoveries are the best discoveries - Sherry cask!

Cask are big wood barrel normally used to store the liquids, mostly alcoholic in nature. Most of the Scotch that is made are refined in casks and then bottled, this gives the Scotch a distinct flavour based on the Cask that it is stored.

The discovery – Sherry (fortified Spanish wine) used to be shipped from Spain to England by the cask. Alcoholism was running rampant in those days, so empty and discarded sherry casks were littering the 19th century Scottish landscape very much like empty beer cans and bottles are doing today. In one of the world's first recycling initiatives the Scots started picking up those second hand sherry casks to use them again for the maturation of their whiskies And then use them again & again & again..

Today most Scotch makers prefer used casks, as it balances the Strong woody elements and aroma that is present in the new barrels which are absorbed during the previous maturation process to make burbon, rye, sherry, port, madeira, rum or brandy, also use of the such casks helps to influence and experiment with the final character of Scotch by use of different mix of casks during the Scotch maturation process.

Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve, introduced by the Black Dog, India’s best Scotch whisky provider is aged in Oloroso sherry cask, this is done in addition to the previous 2 maturation that is done in Single Malt and matured grain whisky casks this lends maturing spirit a heavier body and a deep amber color and flavor and delicate finish.

“Oloroso” Spanish word for scented. Oloroso casks are heated before they’re filled, it is done through toasting rather than burning inside of the cask, this gives smooth, dark and nutty character to absorbed.

The Scottish heritage, Sherry Cask and the name Black Dog, all this gives Black Dog Triple Gold a most desirable drink to have!
